Making my annual pilgrimage tonight to the Tenebrae service at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. If you’ve never been to a Tenebrae service in a similarly majestic locale, please, do it at some point in your life. I’m not Catholic (or even a theist, for that matter) but it’s an otherworldly rich, dark aesthetic experience. And to hear a professional choir sing Allegri’s Miserere inside that soaring architecture, amidst a veil of incense drifting ever upwards, is beyond words.
